Say I am getting a client a 8 million dollar deal, what’s a reasonably fee to charge them for me doing the leg work? 2% 5% it’s my biggest deal I’ve had a opportunity with and I don’t want to be greedy and mess up future deals.

    1) know your customer. 2) what's the most expensive problem for your customer that you can solve? 3) request an introduction with prospective customers/people with clear signs associated with your target demographic. 4) listen about the problem your customer is experiencing. ask why it's a problem. 5) prepare for a proposal. think of symptoms associated with bad practices. are those solutions things people are willing to pay for? who has the most expensive version of that problem? capture all the emotionally-charged language they use.

I am definitely someone who speaks this way. I grew up around people that would absolutely call you on it with statements similar to "want to bet". However, most people will not call you on it, so I had to figure out ways to adapt to the more common culture of people not being willing to have that conversation. I think this nugget of thought would have helped me figure out sooner how to rephrase my certainty for people from different cultures.

The clients can depose witnesses, do oral arguments, and deal with the pressures and stress of trying cases and then maybe they'll understand why good lawyers charge what they charge. It doesn't sound like Mr. Stark has taken a case from the beginning to verdict?
